The John Porter Trio

This trio exists to play instrumental jazz as background music for events such as wedding receptions, parties and various social gatherings including corporate events.

I am the leader (surprise !) and have written the arrangements. It also means I get to pick the tunes we play - which is a rare occurrence for most bass players!

The line up can vary but currently Richard Baker is on piano and Stevie Smith is on drums.

My trio website is here.

Mulligan Soup

This band plays the music and arrangements of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet whose instrumentation consisted of Baritone Sax,Trumpet,Double Bass and Drums. The piano in this group is conspicuously absent so gives it a unique sound.

The leader and arranger is Nick Smith on Baritone with Benny Lee on trumpet doing an impression of Chet Baker and Stevie Smith on drums.

The band's website is here.

Ben Martin Trio

This trio was formed by saxophonist Ben Martin specifically when the opportunity to do some recording in Saint Mary's Church in Nottingham was offered to him. On this particular session he can be heard on soprano as well as tenor.

I was asked to do contribute to the session along with the remarkable talents of Piero Tucci on accordion (he is also a fantastic pianist and sax player too !).

Everything was played acoustically which, combined with the natural reverberation of the church produced a gorgeous sound.

It's ironic that we were playing the "devil's music" in a church !

The results of the session can be heard
